Curious album

For The Sirens (McDonnell)

I was falling awake to the sound of their voices
The words that had opened the school of my heart
These were the girls with the songs of the prairies
Dakota to the lone star under mythical skies

And I'm holding these jewels that you gave
In my hand

Cities ablaze with the fires of neon
In the after hours joints
They're still singing
Bobbi and the Joneses in this well of gravity
Drawing the light

All these handwritten poems left scattered
On the floor at the end of the show
Swept away

Were you staying out late with the boys in the band?
And eating your meals among guitars and pianos?
Your microphone stand was the only thing holding the tide

Like a barricade
Like Jericho

Well you lay down your life in these tracks
I'm just hoping you held something back
For yourself

Diving for pearls while you're
Sitting with strangers
In motels and diners
From city to city
Spilling your heart every night

Tyres on the road
Across the deserts
And far away
To the frozen bays
Of the north lands
Voices
Clear as ice
Whispered
